Location: Alameda CA

Pay: $35-45/hr+ BOE

Duration: Long-term Contract (possible contract to hire!)

HelpDesk/Jr. Linux Admin Job Summary

The HelpDesk/Jr. Linux Admin will provide effective IT assistance across all aspects of the business and will provide back up and support to the Head of IT. The HelpDesk/Jr. Linux Admin is a key part of a robust customer focused team that is responsible for all of the set up and the supporting and maintaining the end-user computing environment (desktops, laptops, tablets, etc.), tier 1 administration of systems and general maintenance of all IT-related hardware/software. This role will provide great exposure to a broad range of IT-related projects and activities and a chance with work with in an exciting, stable, established and now a fast growing Silicon Valley cutting-edge Technology Company specifically stationed at their beautiful new Alameda, CA site.

Please note, this person will be the backup to their Linux Engineer, basic Linux skills will be required for this role.

HelpDesk/Jr. Linux Admin Job Responsibilities

The position will involve the following areas of responsibility:

  • Escalate IT issues to the IT Department Head where necessary
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Undertake small to medium-sized IT projects
  • Setting up and configuring new laptops and desktops
  • Install authorized software to laptops and desktops
  • Backup for basic Linux support when regular Linux person is out of the office.
  • Ensuring security and upgrades are applied and kept up to date on desktops and laptops
  • Antivirus installation to all desktops and laptops
  • Fault-finding to laptops and desktops
  • Reporting faults and maintaining logs on servers, desktops and laptops
  • Patching of network and phones
  • Creating purchase requisitions for IT hardware/software
  • Ensuring all software purchased licensing is recorded and maintained
  • Office365 Tier 1 Administration (accounts creation, pw resets, etc.)
  • Setting up new users and disabling expired accounts in accordance with IT requirements
  • Providing support for moves, adds, changes
  • Prepare documents, meeting materials and correspondence; asset tracking and inventory
  • Perform basic administrative support duties as required to meet specific operational objectives
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the IT Department Head
  • Flexibility to work variable/extra hours/days to meet deadlines, as required
  • Provide assistance and support to colleagues in IT-related matters
  • Ensure that a high level of customer service and support is provided to all internal and external customers

HelpDesk/Jr. Linux Admin Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of IT work experience, preferably in startup environments
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Macs as well as various software packages including MS Office.
  • Basic Linux skillset is REQUIRED—as this person will serve as a backup in case their regular Linux person is out of the office.
  • Excellent Organizational Skills

Education Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree and/or equivalent work experience or IT industry certifications (ITIL, Microsoft MCSE, Cisco CCNA, etc.)
