Quality Control (QC) Chemist I, San Diego, CA

Summary:  Assists with the Quality Control (QC) activities according to established procedures.  Major QC duties include the testing and release of finished components and kits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Quality Control (QC) testing of raw materials, components, and finished kits according to established specifications.
  • Assists with the maintenance of real time, accelerated and shipping stability testing according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assists with the evaluation of in-process materials according to established procedures.
  • Assists with the testing of surveys
  • Performs return authorization product testing according to established procedures.
  • Assists with the validation of processes and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Assists with the maintenance of M.R. bins.
  • Assists with the maintenance of patient serum samples.
  • Assists technical service with customer complaint testing when needed according to QC specifications.
  • Maintains personal training files for work performed.
  • Maintains detailed Device History Records and any associated documentation for QC activities in accordance with Quality System Regulations (QSRs) and International Standards.
  • Assists with the maintenance of QC equipment according to SOPs as requested by supervisor.
  • Informs supervisor of laboratory equipment needs and other supplies required to avoid interruptions in production schedules.  Informs supervisor of broken or deteriorating equipment.
  • Maintains work area and laboratory in a clean and orderly manner.  Performs Friday Clean-up responsibilities in a thorough, timely manner.
  • Follows established safety and environmental procedures.  Reports all safety hazards immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in the Biological Science field with 0-1 years of laboratory sciences.  Relevant work experience of 3-4 years may be substituted for a degree.
  • Good working knowledge of basic biological and chemical laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment.  Knowledge of Quality Systems Regulations (QSR) is highly desirable.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
