QA/QC Auditor – Eden Prairie, MN

Kelly Scientific Resources is currently seeking candidates for a Quality Control Auditor for one of our top clients in Eden Prairie, MN.  This is a 6-month temp-to-hire, Monday-Friday, 4pm-12:30am.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned food safety, quality and continuous improvement activities to support the SQF Code as updated requirements, regulatory requirements and customers' requirements.
  • Responsible for food safety and quality.
  • Cooperate with all aspects of the safety program; i.e. complete mandatory quarterly training sessions; follow employer safety and health rules, regulations, and Standard Work; report hazardous conditions to supervisor; and wear proper PPE as needed.
  • Conduct quality audits of raw materials according to the audit data base to ensure they meet specifications for quality.
  • Assist with purchased goods audits as needed.
  • Manage product on hold and update database with all hold transactions.
  • Standard Work for receiving 
    • Verify raw materials are received from approved suppliers 
    • Report suspicious or unusual circumstances to the QC Receiving/Warehouse Supervisor or Microbiologist Supervisor.
    • Check the raw material ingredient statements (except fresh breads) against the specification upon each delivery. Notify the QC Receiving/Warehouse Supervisor and SQF Coordinator of all discrepancies.
    • Follow good GMP's, check the product temperatures according to standard work for each type of product.
  • Check finished product labels against R&D label set ups and label set ups against raw material specifications at least once per year.
  • Update ingredient laminates when changes to supplier ingredient statements occur and as new raw materials are added. Ingredient statement laminates must match the ingredients in the raw material specification.
  • Verify fresh bread ingredient labels are correct once per quarter.
  • Cover pre-op inspection prior to the start of shift when needed.
  • Conduct sanitation (SSOP) checks of non-RTE areas.  Assist with SSOP checks of RTE as needed.
  • Perform titrations on chemical samples collected during shift.
  • Perform burst tests on finished products to ensure compliance to specifications.
  • Perform daily direct observations of metal detector as needed.
  • Perform monthly facility inspections of assigned areas.
  • Monitor raw material carry-over items to ensure use in a timely manner.
  • Fill in for other QC Auditors and Microbiologist on other shifts as needed.
  • Assist with projects as needed.
  • Maintain an accurate position description and standards of performance.
  • Professionally represent the Company to our suppliers, industry and government.
  • Pursue opportunities for learning as directed by the QC Receiving/Warehouse Supervisor
  • Maintain 6S in the work area.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the QC Receiving/Warehouse Supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Food Science or related science preferred.
  • 1-2 years of Quality Control experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Problem solving, technical skills and good organizational skills are required.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) is required.
  • Experience with verification and validation requirements for SQF or BRC certification preferred.
  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification or PCQI certification preferred.
  • SPC (Statistical Process Control) skills is desirable.
  • Attention to detail and legible handwriting for documentation is required.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work comfortably with a desk top computer and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to lift waist high and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in refrigerated and frozen temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work under pressure yet maintain skills needed to perform functions as described.
  • Maintain and extend a positive attitude toward the work environment and be able to accept/withstand negative feedback from others.
