The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, procurement, layout, and installation of tools and equipment both mechanical and electrical. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer leads major capital projects to automate processes, drive cost savings, and improve manufacturing capacity. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer also performs general engineering tasks that optimize processing capabilities of the facility through process development and verification utilizing engineering methods and techniques, analyzes process flow, develops performance enhancements, implements cost effective designs and monitors production results. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager for the business unit in the Process Solutions Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops and directs project implementation to ensure maximum efficiencies are met at the locations, demonstrating the ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
• Accountable for all aspects of project management while capably contributing plant design.
o Develops performance enhancements.
o Implements cost effective design improvements.
o Reduces downtime and material waste.
• Identifies problems in environmental, electrical, mechanical, production, safety, tooling, and quality control areas providing appropriate solutions for the same.
• Plans, schedules, and coordinates all outside contractors/vendors while controlling costs.
• Manages the best strategy and practices to meet project budgets, schedules, and operational objectives in a timely manner.
• Work with maintenance and plant resources on trouble-shooting, maintaining, and improving equipment.
• Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the corporation, and the community, maintaining the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering from a regionally accredited college or university required; MBA preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a manufacturing/operations environment required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading projects in a manufacturing environment required; eight (8) or more years’ experience preferred.
• Three (3) – five (5) years of experience working in Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) manufacturing operations HIGHLY preferred.
• Systems experience – High degree of tech-savvy with proficiency in one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and 2D/3D modeling software required; proficiency with SAP and AutoCAD preferred.
• Minimum of intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required; advanced proficiency preferred.
• Professional Certifications – Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
• Experience with Six Sigma and LEAN Manufacturing principles preferred.
• Experience implementing LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques (such as Kaizen, 5S, TQM, 6S) to drive improvement in Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Cost.
• Demonstrated history of achieving results in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work independently with a focus on priorities.
• Ability to execute in the “noise” of a production environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of various project management methodologies including Waterfall, Agile, and / or SCRUM preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Sitting at workstation approximately twenty percent (20%) of work time. Standing and walking approximately eighty percent (80%) of work time.
• Must be able travel up to fifty percent (50%) of work time. Travel may be by way of plane, train, or automobile and may include overnight stays.
• Ability to work extended hours and/or travel with short notice; occasionally on weekends.
