Mechanical Engineer -
R D/Mechanical Engineer is a venture backed Menlo Park startup working to bring the next generation of oligonucleotide synthesis instrumentation and tools to the fast-growing genomics industry. As the lead Research Associate, you will work with a great team in scientist and engineers to create, design and develop the world s lead DNA/RNA synthesis instrumentation, reagents, and consumables for the sophisticated genomics industry.
Work closely with other members of the R D team, with expertise in biochemistry, surface chemistry, micro-fluidics, optics, signal processing and engineering. Translate high level design requirements and specifications into detailed requirements, specifications, CAD models, detailed design drawings, prototypes and final products. Supervise vendors in the development and delivery of mechanical parts, components and subsystems. Working with other engineers and scientists; assemble, test, evaluate and conduct iterative improvement on prototype or commercial systems. Contribute relevant information toward product and technical documentation. Directly support the R D processes; instrumentation and chemistry development. Will be responsible for maintenance and monitoring of the hardware components used for the synthesis, purification and analysis of the DNA/RNA products. Be able to write and execute detailed test plans, organize the data generated into clear and easy to read reports. Preferable Requisites Preferably a BS/MS in Engineering or equivalent work experience and a minimum of 2 years of related industry experience. Experience with high precision motion control and design of electro-fluidic systems. Experience with fluidic systems; pumps, valves, manifold design, connection systems. Proficient in SolidWorks; modeling, assemblies, drawing preparation GD T and ASME Y14.5M , use of PDM and version control.
Minimum two years experience mechanical design. Understanding of machine shop processes, DFM and tooling design. Previous experience developing high precision scientific instrumentation a plus. Ability to conduct mechanical systems analysis and simulation; tolerance, thermal, vibration, fatigue, etc. a plus. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with fellow employees, and senior management.
