Kelly Engineering Resources has an outstanding long term contract position for an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician. In this role, you will work for a leading manufacturer of test lab equipment that is headquartered in the North Suburbs of Chicago. You will build and test sub-assemblies and complete test lab machines.

Job Scope of the Electro-mechanical Assembly Technician: Reports to the production supervisor and will be responsible for fitting, assembling and testing electro-mechanical components, sub-assemblies, equipment and machines using blueprints, schematics, hand tools and power equipment.  

Essential Responsibilities of the Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician:                                                         

  • Assemble, test, and repair precision electro-mechanical parts, assemblies, and equipment, such as gyros, servo-mechanisms, electronic components, power supplies, etc. using hand tools, power tools, precision instruments, and test equipment:
    • Read blueprints, schematics/wiring diagrams and other technical orders
    • Determine methods and sequence of assembly operations.
  • Visually inspect parts for surface defects.
  • Align, fit, and assemble component parts into completed units, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and templates.
  • Use  micrometers, calipers and height gauges to verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Solder and bolt electrical and electronic components in specified location on assembly.
  • Tests functional performance of completed electromechanical assemblies, using test equipment.
  • Repairs, reworks, and calibrates assemblies to meet operational tolerances.
  • May fabricate parts, using shop equipment
  • Work within a team environment to execute weekly production schedules that are measured for efficiency.
  • Collect all materials within the warehouse that are necessary for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Prepare all required packing materials and machine components shown on the bill of materials to ensure secure transport.
  • Provide instruction/training for others on equipment and how to manage associated documentation.
  • Participate in scheduling; Provide information for safety reports, Track information for ISO reports, Offer status updates during team meetings.
  • Accept responsibility for all housekeeping protocols and reporting any inventory concerns to supervisor.

Qualifications of the Successful Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician:

  • Associate’s degree or post-secondary technical certificates required
  • Minimum of One to three years of mechanical or electrical assembly where troubleshooting of work was required.
  • Demonstrated Mechanical Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Component level electronic knowledge including: circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Strong attention to detail regarding inspection of components and assembly of machines.
  • Prior experience using basic hand tools, inspection tools and test equipments such as: gages, calipers, micrometers, other measuring devices, multi-meters/oscilloscopes is required, hi-pot testing a plus.
